Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is an Inlay floor?

Inlay is the process of cutting out a shape and then cutting out the same shape in a background piece and placing the first shape inside that background, like a piece in a puzzle.

2. What types of materials do you use?

I use mostly Cork, Linoleum, and Vinyl Composition Tile. Sometimes I combine all of the materials in one floor. Refer to the materials section for further information.

3. Which flooring material and design is best suited for our needs?

Take into consideration these questions and maybe you will be steered in the right direction: Are you restoring your space? What are the important objects in the room that determine its style? What role do you want your floor to play in the space? Should it dominate, or will it function as a subtle background? Please refer to the materials section for a material description.

4. How do we know what we need?

To measure your floor space, multiply all lengths and widths to get total floor space. Example : 10 ft. wide X 12 ft. length is 120 square feet total. Measure all spaces to be covered. Add at least an additional 5% for mistakes and repairs.

5. How long will it last?

These floors can last decades if properly maintained and subjected to normal use. We have seen floors that are fifty years old and still going strong.
